What do you do before you go to sleep?
Depending on your bedtime ritual, if you will, you might be messing with your sleep. There are certain things you should do before you go to sleep, and there are certain things you shouldn't do. To get a better idea of this, let's take a look at five things you should avoid at all costs before you go to sleep.
If you do any of the five things below, then don't be surprised when you are tossing and turning the entire night.
5 Things You Should Avoid At All Costs Before You Go To Sleep
Needless to say, you need to avoid the five things above before you go to sleep. Why? Well, because they all could keep you up at night, or make it virtually impossible to get to sleep in the first place.
Believe it or not, even taking caffeine late in the afternoon could keep you up. It stays in your system longer than you might think.
Out of the five things above, the one item that might be impossible to avoid is stress/worries. After all, some people deal with some major problems, and it is nearly impossible to get to sleep if you can't stop thinking about said major problems. The best thing you can do, instead of tossing and turning all night, is trying to solve your problem, trying to make your situation better, before your head hits the pillow.
When your head does hit the pillow, your mind, body and soul should go into sleep mode. However, that becomes quite the obstacle if you are all jacked up from caffeine or a workout.
In terms of food, a light snack is okay before you go to bed, but an entire meal can affect your sleep.
Instead of using technology, such as a cell phone or computer, before you go to bed, try reading a book instead. You need to give yourself a proper wind down. Spoiler alert: Updating your Facebook account right before you go to bed is not part of a proper wind down -- well, if you want a good night's rest, that is.
Just remember, without sleep, people literally can't function. It is one of those things that you have to have. Heck, if you don't sleep, you will die, although you would have to be up for a very long time for that worry to arise. Do yourself a favor by getting enough sleep every single night -- it's the one thing you shouldn't mess with.
In the spirit of getting a good night's rest, make sure to avoid the five things above before you go to bed.
