3 Simple Secrets That Will Lead To A Good Night's Rest

  • Use Your Bed For What It Was Made For -- Sleeping
  • Come Up With Some Type Of Sleep Ritual
  • Incorporate Downtime And Eliminate Stress

Use Your Bed For What It Was Made For -- Sleeping

If you are having trouble sleeping at night, then it's important to analyze your situation. Yes, there are many people who suffer from sleep disorders, and that is one thing. However, don't be surprised when you can't sleep at night when you are using your bed (or possibly room for that matter) for things that don't relate to sleep.

For example, if you are doing work in your bed, or using technology in general, that alone could lead to you not getting a good night's rest.

As health.harvard.edu points out, "The bed needs to be a stimulus for sleeping, not for wakefulness," (via Dr. Karen Carlson).

In summary, use your bed, and really your room in general, for sleeping. Do not do work in bed. Yes, it might be the most comfortable place in the house to knock out some work or crush some business calls, but it can affect your sleep schedule, and it probably isn't the most productive environment when it comes to work.

Come Up With Some Type Of Sleep Ritual

A bedtime ritual is a good stimulus for sleep. After all, it let's your mind know that you are getting ready to go to bed, and that is especially the case if you incorporate the same ritual every single night.

According to sleep.org, "Going to sleep and waking up at the same time every day—even on weekends—is crucial for setting your body’s internal clock, which experts call your circadian rhythm."

Not only is a sleep ritual important when it comes to you getting a good night's rest, but it is also crucial for success. Morning routines might get all of the buzz, but sleep rituals are just as important.

Incorporate Downtime And Eliminate Stress

Everyone loses sleep for different reasons. With that said, how many people toss and turn at night because they are thinking about something, trying to solve a problem or something along those lines? As you likely already know, it's virtually impossible to fall asleep right away when your mind is racing at night.

If you start incorporating some downtime in the evening, then that could help you eliminate stress. As a result, your mind might not be racing as much every single night.

Downtime should consist of relaxation and you getting away from all things work related. Not only can this help you get a better night's sleep because problems aren't hanging over your head, but it could lead to you feeling refreshed in the morning because you weren't focusing on work 24/7 for once.

Use this simple secret to your advantage in hopes of getting a good night's rest.
